South Australia Issues Skilled Migration Invitations

South Australia Issues 344 Skilled Migration Invitations in First 2026 Round

South Australia has commenced 2026 with a strong start to its skilled migration program, issuing 344 state nomination invitations on 6 January 2026 across the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visas. This marks the first invitation round of the calendar year and confirms South Australia’s commitment to monthly invitation rounds throughout the 2025–26 program year.

Of the total invitations issued, 235 were for the permanent subclass 190 visa, while 109 were granted under the regional subclass 491 pathway. Health occupations continued to dominate demand, receiving 69 invitations, followed by strong representation from engineering, ICT and education professionals. Invitations were also extended to candidates in hospitality, trades and social welfare, highlighting South Australia’s diverse workforce needs across metropolitan and regional areas.

Since 1 July 2025, South Australia has issued 931 invitations, accounting for approximately 38% of its indicative General Skilled Migration (GSM) allocation. State officials have reaffirmed their intention to maintain regular invitation cycles to improve predictability, support employers and help reduce national visa backlogs.

What this means for applicants and employers?

South Australia remains receptive to high-demand skill sets and continues to offer accessible permanent and regional migration pathways. Prospective migrants should ensure skills assessments and English test results remain valid, as invitations must be accepted within 14 days or they will lapse.
